Draw your kid. We'll paint them for you.

Tap a few choices and watch a sketch of your child appear. Then we paint it, and every picture in their stories starts from that face.

Kids hunt for themselves in the pictures. Not a kid a bit like them. Them. The curls that won't lie flat. The glasses they picked out themselves. The gap where a tooth came out last Tuesday.

For a long time, the only way to tell us what your child looks like was to type it out. And words are slippery. "Brown hair" covers half the playground. So the pictures came out close, but not quite them.

So we made a better way. Instead of describing your child, you show us. You tap what fits, and a sketch fills in as you go. When it looks right, we paint it.

Sketch Painted

Drag across it

Maya: a sketch from a few taps, then the painting. Drag to compare.

How it works

  1. Tap what fits. Skin, hair, eyes, a hairstyle. Every tap changes the sketch straight away, so you can see if it's right.
  2. Skip anything you're not sure about. "Not sure" is always an answer. We'd rather leave something out than guess it wrong.
  3. We paint it. In our watercolour storybook style, in about half a minute. That painting becomes the face in every story.

Here's Sam drawing Ollie, start to finish.

Now you try!

This is the quick version of our studio: six steps, starting with their name. Nothing leaves your browser until you ask us to paint, and the painting is yours to keep, free.

little details

A missing tooth, A squint, Some vitiligo, Albinism…

Here are a few we made while building it, each with the sketch it started as. Hover over one (or tap it) to see exactly what was picked.

Grown-ups count too. A grandparent, a favourite aunt, the dog, the stuffed rabbit that goes everywhere. If they're in your kid's life, they can be in the story.

Want every detail? Use the full studio

The studio above is the quick version. The full studio goes much further, one easy step at a time:

  • The whole face: face shape, jaw and chin, nose and ears, eye shape and eyelids, eyebrows, lips and smile.
  • All the hair: highlights and a second colour, bangs, the part, hair clips and bows.
  • The little things: freckles, dimples, braces, a missing tooth, birthmarks you place right on the sketch.
  • What they always have with them: glasses, hearing aids, a hijab or a kippah, a wheelchair, a favourite toy.
  • Grown-ups, pets and more: beards built area by area for dads and grandads, plus dogs, cats, teddies and dragons.

And if you'd rather not tap through it all, there's a shortcut in both: share a photo (it's on the skin step of the studio above, too). The studio looks at it once, fills in every pick it can see, and then the photo is deleted. You check the sketch, change anything that's not quite right, and paint.

Nana Rose isn't a real person: we made her photo for this demo, so nobody's family photo is in it. Everything after the photo is the studio's own work: what it read, the sketch those picks drew, and the painting.

Then: who they are

A face is only half a character. After the painting, there's a short chat about who your kid is: what they love, who's in their life, what makes them brave. It takes a few minutes, and it's what makes the stories feel written for them.

From the look and the chat, we draw a character sheet: every angle, every expression, and the things they love doing. Every picture in every story starts from it, so it's your kid on the first page, and on the last.

Marigold's character sheet: front, side and back views, six expressions, and action poses finding snails and building a blanket fort
Marigold's character sheet. The snails and the blanket fort came from her chat.
